A slipped panel is a glass unit that has slid down its glazing bars, leaving a gap at the top and often pushing past the eaves at the bottom. It's usually caused by missing or failed setting blocks or glass stops. We lift the unit back into place, fit the right supports, and reseal.

What are the signs you need slipped glass panel repairs?
- A visible gap under the capping at the top of a pane
- Glass edge overhanging the eaves more than its neighbours
- A leak at the top of one pane only
- A pane that looks out of line with the others
What usually causes it?
Missing setting blocks
Blocks under the bottom edge carry the weight of the unit; if they're missing or crushed, the unit creeps down.
Failed glass stops
Many systems use an end stop at the eaves. If it's missing or broken, nothing holds the glass in place.
Loose cappings
If the capping no longer clamps the glass firmly, the unit can creep with thermal movement.
How do we fix it?
- Check the unitWe check the glass for damage and confirm the unit's seal is intact.
- Lift and supportCappings are removed, the unit is lifted back into position and the correct blocks and stops are fitted.
- Re-clamp and sealCappings are re-seated under correct pressure and the joints resealed.
Is a slipped lantern panel urgent?
It should be dealt with soon: the gap at the top lets water in, and a unit that keeps moving can damage its edge seal or crack. If the pane has moved noticeably or you can see daylight, send photos and we'll advise.
What should you expect to pay for slipped glass panel repairs?
Guide prices assume a standard lantern on a single-storey roof with safe ladder access. Where a tower or scaffold is needed we add it to the quote (typically £245–£895 ex VAT). Diagnostic visits start from £145 ex VAT. Your fixed price is confirmed in writing before any work starts. See all guide prices.
Where is this on the lantern?
Highlighted in amber: sealed glass units.
Questions about slipped glass panel repairs
What does resetting a slipped panel cost?
Usually £195–£445 ex VAT per panel, confirmed in writing before work starts. If the unit is damaged it may need replacing.
Can a slipped panel be pushed back up?
Not safely without removing the capping. The fix is to support the unit properly so it can't slip again.
Does a slipped panel mean my lantern was badly fitted?
Not necessarily — blocks can crush and stops can break over time — but if the lantern is new, talk to the installer first as it may be under warranty.
